Lets Talk Books: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Cinder is a Cinderella re-telling where Cinderella is a cyborg… Sounds weird yea I know but it is definitely worth the read (or listen). It has everything I personally want in a book. A romance that isn’t insta-love, entire fantasy world complete with history to read about and several books in the series to catch up on!

So Cinder is a book that has been on my tbr for the longest time. Basically since I started book blogging everybody has been talking about the Lunar Chronicles and getting excited about the new releases and I have had no idea about any of it. But last month I FINALLY got round to starting the series. Cinder was everything that I look for in a YA book. Its a really unique concept because who else has written Cinderella as a cyborg? When I first heard that I was like ‘hhhmmmmm’ but trust me it works.

I loved the story line as even though it is a retelling it doesn’t follow the traditional story. The history of the world and societal expectations are very cleverly woven into the story. I actually really liked how Cinder didn’t just stick to the traditional story because it meant that it was not as predictable and I was still shocked by the twists and turns and I was caught up in every minute of it! It was fast paced and I never got bored of listening to it.

I didn’t really have many problems with the characters. I liked Cinder even if she could be pretty idiotic at times and I really got her humor. I liked Prince Kai as a character he wasn’t just there to be a love interest and I loved listening to his side of everything that was so complex and not just constantly thinking about Cinder. The two did have an almost kinda insta-love but it also kinda wasn’t which I liked. I’m not a fan of full on romance and I especially hate insta-love so I feel like this was a good balance for me.

Overall, I loved this book and would really recommend anybody that hasn’t gotten round to reading it yet to pick it up. Definitely worth it and I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series! I already have Scarlet downloaded on my Audible I just haven’t gotten round to starting it yet!

TL;DR cyborg Cinderella finds her prince but has a lot of trouble to deal with first before she can even start with the whole going to the ball thing. Full of laughs and plot twists. Would HIGHLY recommend!
